Hello Everyone!  My name is Sharisse Williams and I thank you for visiting my site! I am convinced that your visit denotes a corresponding interest in helping others. I want to take this opportunity to not only welcome you to the site, but to share just a small snippet or my life and my subsequent journey to founding ROOM, Inc.

I was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents who although loving were drug addicted. The addiction, of course, brought with it some rather horrific circumstances.  As a youngster, I witnessed the full gambit of the turmoil of addiction: from violence to abuse in the forms of physical and emotional.  Needless to say, this was not an atmosphere conducive to proper child rearing and I eventually became a victim of my family's circumstances. At the age of 14, I began to live out the pattern exemplified by my parents. There I was drinking and using drugs, lost in a swirling decline as collateral damage. I was so lost!

Often I would have an inner dialogue and would ask, “Does anyone see me? What do I do? Who and where can I turn?  Who has ROOM for me? This downward spiral continued and I suffered immensely as I watched my mother die of Cirrhosis of the liver and my father die of AIDS. Then I became a teenage mother at the age of 17 and due to my own addictions, lost my son to the State of New York.

In November of 1998 I had an epiphany concerning my life and sought the help I needed!  Not only did I pursue a degree in Accounting and Psychology, but I reclaimed custody of my son! My life changed and it was all because someone made ROOM for me!  Now I seek to pass it on!

It is my mandate to provide the opportunity to individuals in need of help!  Everyone needs a place to turn and now there is a place!  ROOM, Inc… Please take a moment to explore the site and I am sure you will find that YOU have ROOM to reach others!  Please consider to support this worthwhile cause.
